According to data released by the IRENA, solar energy accounted for 56% of the newly added 176GW of renewable energy installations worldwide in 2019. This result shows that photovoltaic installations will continue to grow.

At present, 143 countries and 100 major cities have issued net zero carbon emission policies and plans. Some countries have cancelled or reduced allowances. However, the growth of photovoltaic installations has hardly been affected. PV industry experts predict that by 2025, the annual new photovoltaic installations will nearly double. And it is expected to reach 200GW within 5 years.

Development Status of Photovoltaic Industry in Main Regions

European Union

2019 is the best year for EU photovoltaic development. As shown in figure 1, the newly photovoltaic installations were 16.7GW in 2019, an increase of 104% . Every country is showing a growth trend.

United States

In 2019, the newly photovoltaic installations in the United States were 13.3GW, an increase of 23% over 2018. Throughout 2019, the cumulative photovoltaic installations in the United States have achieved 76GW. However, it was only 1GW in 2009.

Australia

Australia is one of the most developed countries in the world for photovoltaics. After Australia introduced the policy of 0.5 Australian dollars per kilowatt-hour of photovoltaic power in 2009, new installations in 2010 showed an explosive growth, reaching 383MW.

End

Although the COVID-19 has seriously affected many industries. Photovoltaics has become the most risk-resistant renewable energy during this time. Therefore, no matter from the current point of view or in the long run, the photovoltaic industry has a tendency to increase.

In the next article, we will talk about the development prospects of the pv market in South America.
